I think the girls are in a really good position where they get to experience fame but still have a decent amount of privacy in their lives. Here’s some of the horrors that popular kpop groups have to fare that the girls do not:
– Sasaengs who will constantly stalk them and even follow them around the world. Will also get their phone numbers and keep trying to contact them. Will find out where you live and might even try to break in.
– Fansites who will also follow you around the world and might also be stalkers (not all are). Some are constantly trying to get good footage to sell and will go into the airport with them and be on the same flights. They might even perform to a crowd where it’s visibly a sea of professional cameras just filming them.
– Every time you go to the airport, you get swarmed by not only the press, but also fansites, sasaengs, and fans. Some will even go in with you and be on the same flights as they also keep recording.
– Having to act straight for the fan service and entertain a lot of weird stuff from fans. Some fans might expect girlfriend behaviour from them. But if they’re paying hundreds or thousands for those fansigns, fan calls or polaroids events, then you better behave unless they really misbehave.
– Potentially having a large male fandom and I think this would not work well for Katseye given their styling…
– Subjected to harsher beauty standards as many kpop idols are so thin now to the point it’s really hindering their performances.
– Can’t openly date or could cause harm to the group and lose fans.
– Having to be more cautious of how they act as attitude scandals seem way more common in kpop. Prime example is Wonyoung where people really nitpick at what she does.
Just some off the top of my head but other than Yoonchae, do you think the rest of the girls would have agreed to be part of a kpop group from HYBE if that had been the opportunity instead? I think many of them would have for the opportunity and some would adapt but I can see some throwing in the towel as it becomes too much.
