Do you ever think about how conflicting it would be to debut in a group with one Superstar member?

Imagine you train for years and years to debut in a group, and you finally get to. Everything you worked for has come true. You hope you will be so famous and successful and rich.

Then you debut and there’s this other person in your group that the public falls in love with.

There would be so many conflicting emotions. You cheer them on and are in awe of the fame their acquire. You admire of their achievements. You have gratitude for the attention it brings your group, and opportunities it brings. You know that, by default, having this It Girl or It Boy in your group will allow all the members more fame than some groups could dream of.

But the jealousy? Watching someone live out your dream so closely to you. Knowing that that member will always get more love, more opportunities, more attention, more money, more fame than you.

Sure, you can still be successful on your own. Maybe even REALLY successful. But you’ll never be them. You won’t be the “King of K-Pop” like G-Dragon. You won’t be “this generation’s It Girl” like Wonyoung or Jennie. You will never be the most popular in your group, or remembered as a top icon of your time.

I often think about how instance of self pressure idols must put on themselves.
