why do kpop groups make it global but not other subgenres in korean music like k-bands/k-hiphop/etc?

i saw this somewhere else and it’s been on my mind for a while… ik kpop borrows some aspects from other genres so it’s not like u need to be super unique to become big globally.

i think this case is similar to why some kpop artists make it globally, yet if u ask these ppl if they support asian ppl in american music, they would say no sans olivia rodrigo (and even that many ppl dont rlly know she’s half Asian ig). ppl have a vision of what they expect from asian culture, and u need to fit in that lane. even the ppl that go against the norm don’t rlly drift that far to an extreme.

idk what do yall think? is it the music or its vision ppl already have? Also ngl a part of me wonders do Koreans think we weird for liking this or are they grateful it’s gotten bigger?
