TW:Death of parent,Mental health struggles
I say this because I was watching this video about how people get into Kpop when they’re at their lowest or going through a bad place and the comments were kinda agreeing. I think it’s true for me too. I got into Kpop when I was 11 and going through puberty which was stressful. The catchy music the colorful visuals and idols making relatable and funny content weren’t really things I could find in Western music at the time.
I was really into Twice,Blackpink,Apink,Oh my Girl,Momoland and more.
Then I stopped listening because I was getting made fun of and leaned into peer pressure.Kpop wasn’t that well liked most of my friends though it was uncool and 12 year old me bought into that.My dad died last year. I was depressed and having anxiety attacks and suddenly while scrolling through Twitter I came across a Twice post about their concert. Mind you I don’t follow anything related to Kpop and haven’t for years and somehow that one post pulled me right back in.
Now I’m getting into Kpop again. It was honestly kinda hard getting used to all the new groups the changes and everything that happened while I was gone.I can now say i have new favourites like
Izna,Meovv,Illit,Ive,Zb1,nmixx,at heart,baby don’t cry and Rescene i love them. i’m a huge multi stanner.
I wouldn’t say Kpop saved my life because therapy and medication did but it definitely helped. All this time that I was into Western music nothing really quite brought me the same joy that Kpop did yk. There’s just something about it that hits differently for me.
Maybe it was a sign from my dad because he knew how much I liked Kpop. He even planned a trip to SK back then because he knew how much I wanted to go he even made me a poster of Blackpink he himself printed it out.Now that I’m back into it I really wish he was here to see it and that we could have gone to concerts together.
But yeah at least now I am not ashamed to stop listening to it. I’m also saving up so I can purchase my first album.
I just wanted to share my experience and also maybe hear if anyone also went through something similar and kpop found them at their lowest.
