Stealing this idea slightly from the art history sub – what surprised you most when seeing different artists live or in person?
For me, seeing SHINee live was mind-blowing – I was so shocked by how full of energy they were (especially Minho, who was sprinting around the entire time and hugging members of the crowd) and how impeccable the level of vocals and performance were. I wasn’t even a fan before the show, I’d literally only heard Sherlock and Ring Ding Dong and decided to go on a complete whim, and I walked out as the world’s biggest Shawol. They did 27 songs with full choreo the entire time and zero solo stages.
When I saw Red Velvet, I was surprised by how bad the crowd was? It wasn’t the members’ fault whatsoever, they had great energy, but the crowd was DEAD and they were having to actively encourage people to sing along.
I’ve been to more than 40 K-Pop shows by now and there are certain idols in each group that I had never really noticed before, but massively stood out in how electric their energy was or how beautiful their visuals were – feel free to ask about specific groups if you like!
