Might be a bit of an unpopular opinion, honestly I don’t know but I felt like discussing this.

I have started listening to Kpop in 2016/2017, when bigbang was still at 5 member, when Jonghyun was still alive and BlackPink were still rookies.
It was during my early teenage years so I led me to the person I am today. I spent around 5 years listening religiously to it. Followed every actu, every MV, and I saw nothing wrong with that.
I started putting a barrier between me and kpop in general because it did not really made me happy anymore, it was stressful. So I stopped. I try to get back at it sometimes ; I listen to some old song I enjoyed. Tried to see what the groups are up to and holly molly.
I noticed how much kpop groups creates and how much some fan REQUEST. I am honestly not really sure what the situation is today but when I was in the fandom twice posted like 3 MV in a year (around the feels era i think) and it was NOT okay.
Creating more than 1 album a year, at most 1 album and some songs alone, this, this is normal.
I saw how people were mad at Blackpink for not having lots of song and that honestly kinda fair from what people are conditionned for.
This system also creates unfair treatment for groups. Old gen are usually already established and have a fandom that listen to it knowing nothing will be out. Like Girl’s generation, super juniors, exo, f(x),… But for young groups? They have to follow the trend, if they only post one album a year people will forget about them and just go on the next new group. Like MCND in 2020, and this is only one example among a LOTS of other. Though what plays a big role in the fact that rookies get forgotten is also that they either post generic ahhh songs like just the ongoing trend or something new but too new.
Like LUCY, I loved their concept with the violon but it was too unique to actually please everyone.
Talking about overconsumption, the photocard system is the worst, fun alright but it makes people buy a tons of album just to get one card, it’s kinda giving scalpers.
But since it is so normalized people just go about their lives and by multiple version of one album to get the whole picture. (happened with the love yourself album by BTS for exemple).
I know it’s a whole business, lightstick, photocards, all that but then fans tend to want the same things for other systems. You can’t expect western musician to publish 3 albums a year with all original songs and good concept. It is not okay for a group to have millions of view during a few months and then get forgotten. People should not move on that fast.
