Just like the title said, this IOI reunion gives me a new appreciation and perspective towards Somi.
I love Somi, I love her music, and I’ve loved her since her Produce days through to her solo career, which I feel is still underrated.
But this IOI reunion gives me even more appreciation for her. I watched her vlog yesterday, and I felt really proud of her. 10 years ago, we saw this girl who missed out on debuting in Twice, she was only around 15 at the time but now she’s composing and writing lyrics for her IOI sisters.
I also love how encouraging she is towards the members who haven’t been singing for a while. The way she reassured Nayoung that she sounded great, despite Nayoung being nervous and not confident with her rap anymore (like girlie used to be the main rapper, but look what Pledis did to her), just made me love Somi even more.
There was also a quote/comment I found on TikTok that said:
“Somi taking her center role seriously. She brought the members back for every I.O.I anniversary, graduation, birthday, and celebrated each member’s individual career.”
I know there’s been debate about whether Somi should have stayed in JYP and possibly debuted in ITZY, but with everything she went through and all her struggles in multiple project groups, it’s safe to say that I.O.I is the only girl group she truly wants to be part of.
I love every member but this is new deep respect and appreciation for Somi (and I can’t wait to watch them in Bangkok next week)
