Question about Korean friendliness and physical affection

Hi! I’m not sure how to phrase this properly, but I was curious about something cultural/social and wanted to ask for opinions.

I’m a 19-year-old girl, and last night my friend and I met a group of Korean girls who were studying abroad. We ended up talking for a while, and I especially got along well with one girl — I’ll call her “An.”

While we were talking, she kept complimenting me and saying I was beautiful. She was also pretty physically affectionate/touchy with me (touching my shoulders, hands, arms, etc.). At one point, a guy came over and tried talking to her, and when I sat next to her she touched my thigh and stayed focused on me rather than really engaging with him.

Since then, I’ve been wondering whether there might have been some romantic interest, or if this is just normal friendly behavior in Korean culture. In my home country, people usually aren’t this physically affectionate with someone they just met unless they’re very drunk, so it stood out to me.

I know nobody here can say for sure what she was thinking, but I’d be interested to hear whether this kind of behavior is considered normal friendship behavior in Korea, especially between girls.
