I found this room screen with a painting on it at a local vintage shop in the US. The setting is clearly somewhere in the ancient days of the Middle East/North Africa (pardon my ignorance as to where and when exactly). But the main guy is dressed in clothes that look a lot like the court scholars/nobles of Joseon or maybe Goryeo. Does anyone have an explanation? Were there overlapping fashions between cultures perhaps? Or did Korean nobility make it out into the world? But if so, why would it be commemorated on a random room divider for sale in Missouri, USA?
