I find it really impressive and appealing when an idol either has the talent/skills to manipulate their tone drastically to suit a wide range of styles or if they just naturally possess a versatile voice; I especially appreciate vocal versatility in solo albums, since it often prevents the songs from feeling too monotonous.
One of my favorite idols who suits this description is Minhyuk from BTOB. Not only is he both an incredibly skilled rapper and a talented vocalist, but his tone sounds significantly different when he’s rapping vs. when he’s singing, to the point where if I wasn’t familiar with him, I would think his solo songs consisted of two different voices. He often will harmonize with himself and layer his vocals/adlibs on top of his rapping and vice versa, which adds such an interesting dimension to his music (examples: Ya and Lonely).
Who are your favorite idols that possess a high level of vocal versatility/tonal range? Feel free to share examples of performances/songs that showcase their versatility as well!
