After watching IVE’s Dingo appearance, which I was genuinely so excited for, it really reminded me of something that’s honestly been noticeable since their 2021 debut. The gap between the main vocalists and the rest of the group is pretty clear.
Liz and Yujin just stand out so much vocally. They sound confident, stable, and in control the entire time. That last part in “I AM” where Liz and Yujin sang together was actually insane. Their voices blend so well and they both hit those notes with so much power and ease. You can really feel the difference.
Rei is fairly stable and Leeseo definitely has moments where she sounds really good too. And Wonyoung actually sounds beautiful in her lower register. When she stays in that range, her tone is soft and really pleasant. That’s why it’s frustrating, because it feels like she hasn’t always been given parts that suit her. Especially during debut era, the company pushed her so hard as the face of the group and gave her really high notes that just don’t seem comfortable for her. It never felt like a lack of talent, it felt like she was being set up with parts that didn’t highlight her strengths.
You can even see how focused she gets when those high notes come up. She looks so concentrated because she’s trying to nail something that is clearly at the top of her range. Meanwhile Yujin makes it look effortless and Liz is just on another level vocally.
Overall, Liz and Yujin really outshine the others when it comes to vocals, and that’s not hate, it’s just acknowledging how strong they are. Honestly, a Yujin and Liz subunit would hit so hard.
