there is no 4th gen it boy moas and stays, give it a rest! i absolutely can not stand gdragon but he was the only male idol who’s fashion had influence on regular people. NOBODY is trying to dress like yeonjun or any other 4th gen boy (ni-ki yes but its his fans not nonfans). wonyoung has an image and since kpop usually has a lot of female fans, we can easily imitate jennie and wonyoung’s accessories or outfits so no wonder its difficult to see the same in male idols.
it boy isn’t a meaningless phrase in kpop because clearly people have made posts about it and there are fights over it everyday. yes, moas were the first ones to use it but that means nothing? i can also start saying xyz group daesang winner when they don’t have a daesang in the first place. thats empty praise.
kmedia picked up on it BECAUSE you guys were using it. real influence and power comes from media and virality that later gives a title. not the other way around. i’m trying to be as unbiased as possible because my ult bias is usually dragged into this conversation too but despite having brand deals, i still would never put him on the same level as wonyoung or an it boy. he still has a long way to go and i know in few years he’ll do well and have a bigger career but i’m sorry getting social media interactions and international brand deals are not the sole factors. while it is true that the brand initiates a deal, it can also be done if the company has contacts in the brand. it doesn’t indicate influence. now what the idol does with the brand is a different story.
a random pedestrian in korea would not know yeonjun or felix but anyone who’s been to olive young would know wonyoung. and yes domestic popularity does matter. you can’t exclude being a household name from the requirements. atleast wait till they all flourish in their solo debuts or get some achievements to their name before declaring them as a definite representation of a generation in kpop.
