I’ve been into K-pop since 2006 (2nd gen era), and honestly, I’ve seen so many excuses and weird takes over the years. One of the most common ones is: “Idols can’t sing live while dancing.” That’s just not true. Singing is physical — it’s like a sport. You need vocal stamina and physical stamina, both of which can be trained. The problem isn’t that it’s impossible — it’s that agencies don’t give idols proper training anymore because they’re too busy pushing schedules and brand deals. Back in the 2nd gen, there were even rumors that SM trained idols to sing while jumping rope or playing basketball. People laughed at that, but it’s actually a real training method used to build stamina. That’s why a lot of SM idols can handle musicals and live stages so well. Breathing techniques, timing, and choreography design can all help idols sing live and dance. The “it’s too hard” excuse is just lazy. And yeah, I’ll say it — HYBE played a big role in normalizing this mindset. They prioritized insane choreos over vocals, especially since BTS (as great as they are) weren’t the strongest vocal group when they debuted. Their success made everyone else copy that formula: harder dances, less live singing. Now K-pop feels like a fast-food industry — fast debuts, rushed training, and everything focused on numbers instead of artistry.
