Golden, the breakout anthem from Netflix’s animated feature KPop Demon Hunters, has rewritten history on the UK’s Official Singles Chart.
According to the Official Charts Company on Fryday, the track held onto the No. 1 spot on the latest Official Singles Top 100 covering Sept. 26 to Oct. 2. Olivia Dean’s Man I Need remained in second place for the fifth straight week.
Golden has now spent a cumulative eight weeks at the summit, though not consecutively, surpassing the record set 13 years ago by Psy’s Gangnam Style as the longest-running No. 1 for a K-pop act on the chart.
The milestone also ties the all-time record for an animated act. The only other instance came in 1969, when cartoon band The Archies topped the UK chart for eight weeks with Sugar, Sugar.
Momentum extended beyond the lead single. Two other KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack tracks entered the Top 10 this week: Soda Pop landed at No. 5, while Your Idol took No. 6.
Another standout, Take Down, performed by TWICE members Jeongyeon, Jihyo and Chaeyoung, placed at No. 25, underscoring the global appeal of the animated soundtrack.
