There was 회식 drinking of coworkers of a company, I was there. After drinking for a while, few cursing words in a high tone and then fist blows started there. Among onlookers, there was a guy who is an amateur UFC fighter, he goes almost everyday to UFC gymnasium for an excercise, he doesn’t drink weekdays to make his body. And he was known as ex-convict for violence, fight.
Less than a second when a first punch was thrown, he stood up and shouted “Remove the knives, 칼 치워”, and he himself collected all the scissors and knives from the room and took them away from the room. That was quite impressive to me, and meaningfull. It was understandable by the fact that he was ex-shelf from sushi, sashimi Japanese restaurant before this company.
These day when I saw the topic of American gun policy, I reminded him. When anybody is being punched for a while, he will grab anything that is available. Removing weapons from our hand’s reach is not because they don’t trust us or they think we are impulsive. And gun owners say it’s for defence and they sure will use it rationally. But we sometimes are pushed to corner and get angry or feel at loss, or all at the same time. And that time if there’s an available, useful option, it’s easy to use it. I think removing that option at first is very useful for ourselves.
