I see a lot of negative posts about Koreans recently so I decided to post something positive. I don’t listen to K-Pop, but I do like listening to indie bands as I am also a musician myself.
Last July, there were two Korean indie artists that toured around Taiwan. One calls herself as DeLight and the other one is a band named Bestfriends. One of my bands fronted for them, and then afterwards, me and my friends talked to them. They were humble, down-to-earth, and cheerful. Their manager also explained to us that they’re doing a counterculture against the current trend of K-Pop by fostering homegrown bands. I saw some of the bands under their record through the IG story of Bestfriends, and I could see talent and potential in them.
I know people would say it’s parasocial stuff, but even if it was, the way they asked my IG account, reply to my comments to their stories (well I don’t always comment), just felt genuine. They have more followings than most of my musician friends, but it feels like I’m talking to them as equals.
Anyway, here are their IG pages, and if you happen to talk to them through chat and in real life, please don’t mention that you found them through Reddit since they might figure out who I am. XD
