Writing this after the announcement of YG debuting a new Kpop girl group only 2 years after debuting Babymonster. The group is going to have 4 members… hmmmm. Babymonster is doing good, they have great numbers, but ofcourse YG is scrambling to create another Blackpink even before the disbandment announcement (which is not very far away I fear, naming their tour ‘deadline’ kind of confirmed that)
Companies want profit obviously, but the way YG goes about it is just so? Blackpink were a new branded 2NE1, now this other group is going to be a 2NE1 3#. Other companies have their shady tactics too (though I can’t immediately come up with an example), but YG is so full on blatant with it and I sometimes just wonder how fans keep accepting it.
The main problem I have is that they just seem so uninspired and lazy, which just doesn’t mix well with greed. They gave Babymonster a replica of Money for their predebut song batter up (seriously what was their thought process behind this), they have been using the same exact formula for songs for almost a decade now (with the whole repeating the same English phrase or word over and over again over some funky beat for the chorus shtick overstaying it’s welcome by 5 years now) and they keep searching for members identical to their most successful idols in a desperate attempt to copy the fame it gave them (Chiquita and Lisa / Ahyeon and Jennie)
I don’t know, I’m just not falling for it. I guess the company got a bit in over their heads because the first time they did it (with Blackpink after 2NE1) it resulted in their most succesful group to date, but now that their attempt of copying this success with Babymonster doesn’t seem to have the same result and Blackpink is on the brink of disbandment, they’re scrambling for something else and I’m sorry but the desperation is showing
