Before I start that title is a bit of joke but I am slightly serious about the fact that I miss so badly when kpop idols could have fun. Watching BIGBANGs MAMA performance made me remember a time when everyone would be so hype dancing not too worried about their reaction on camera until they were actually on camera. I also so badly miss dance practice videos. The first groups I ever got into were BTS and blackpink (ik very basic but I was transitioning from rock music to kpop) and when BTS did dance practices they were so fun and my favorite part was hearing the sneakers squeaking on the floor or them adding little “hey!” “ha!” “yah!”s when they jump and dance. I will admit I don’t follow many new groups just because I as a 20 year old can’t bring myself to watch and (inevitably) judge a bunch of teenagers. Maybe when some of them get a little older I’ll start but I just cant. So all this to say I know things have changed for a reason many of these reasons being fans who ridicule and harass idols to the point it has not only effecting how we see them and their company sees and treats them but it is heavily effecting how they choose to portray themselves. We can’t have anymore genuinely kind wholesome interactions between idols because god forbid a teenage boy and a teenage girl say one thing to each other. Or if one person doesn’t bow too deeply for literally whatever reason they’re seen as the worst idol ever when we actively have people like hyunas husband Yong Junhyung who are to my knowledge still active in his career (please correct this if I’m wrong (also justice for DAWN please stream that man’s music ik his voice is eccentric but he’s got insane musical talent)) and yet people are soooo focused on what these (basically) children are doing. I don’t know maybe I’m just being a cranky old fart but it’s just really sad to me that so many of these kids probably went into training around when 3rd gen and hell even 2nd gen idols were still active and openly having a good time (with a lot of exceptions I understand it wasn’t all happy) and I can’t help but think they were expecting a different culture around being an idol than what they were given. All this to say I miss dance practice videos with low ass quality that you can tell someone was just filming with their phone and everything in the world wasn’t supposed to be perfect and TikTok worthy. I miss when kpop idols could date and it would be more of a tabloid that fans got mad at instead of a guy getting his entire life’s work taken away from him in the matter of a couple hours. Anyways there isn’t much a point to this it’s just a lil rant. Also I’m so sorry for the lack of commas for some reason I can’t edit this post correctly.
TLDR; I miss when kpop idols could feel more like people and less like children being controlled. Also I miss dance practice videos </3
