My Coachella Experience: Jennie’s Set Review

I flew in for Coachella this weekend mainly to see Lady Gaga and Charli XCX (missed both, sadly — I’ll catch them next weekend). I had passes for Saturday and Sunday, but skipped Saturday because I was too tired. I ended up watching Jennie’s set on Sunday before Megan Thee Stallion, mostly because I’m obsessed with “Like Jennie” and a few other songs from her album like “Extral” and “Seoul City.”

But… the performance felt underwhelming to me. Visually, it was great, and she looked amazing, but she seemed genuinely tired — not lazy, just like she needed to catch her breath. Her voice sounded shaky, like when someone’s out of breath and trying to catch it mid-sentence. It made me wonder — does she have a condition or something that affects her stamina? Because I kept seeing comments online mentioning “low stamina,” and I don’t follow K-pop enough to know if there’s backstory there. From what I saw live and later on the livestream, it didn’t feel like she was singing more than 25% live. And I’m confused because a lot of the internet is calling it 70–100% live?

This isn’t hate — as i said I’m not a hardcore K-pop fan, so maybe I just don’t get the performance standard. I got into K-pop after Blackpink’s 2023 Coachella set, so I was excited to see Jennie, Lisa, and Enhypen live (missed the first two — will try next weekend).

Again — not criticizing, just trying to understand. Maybe this is just how K-pop stages are, or maybe she wasn’t feeling her best? I mean was this supposed to be like this?

Genuinely curious and open to understanding more, so would love to hear your thoughts.
