Because of my school performance I awarded myself a vacation in America for a couple of months. In that time I wished to experience an All-American 4th of July and the family I stayed with was a million % lovely.
For a couple of days I was in deep farmer land Idaho. It was a blast. In their town there was parade, then family Barbeque with cornhole toss game, and then fireworks, then real “illegal” fireworks. Although I can’t speak in general, i was welcomed well as an outsider.
The host of my Idaho stay was Mormon with large family, an elder patriarch (he tried to gift me a barnyard kitten [oc i couldnt take]). But when he was explain his role in the Korean War he consistently referred to me (South) and the North as a “g * o ks”.
I thought short hand way of 대한민 국 or maybe cute soup, but I was told that it’s a RACIST word!
Look, I get Korea isn’t best loved by everyone, but is “g o o k” a commom word?
Edit: He is legend for what he did in Pearl Harbor and what he did in Korea. I legit cried just at seeing him.
Before I had negative sentiment of Mormon, but from how I saw how they support him so he can supprt them, it made me feel guilty
