Albums We Didn’t Review 6 : Storm-Drunk Whale, Eukk, Kim Il Du, R01 Parlour, BrokenTeeth, OYEOL, cotoba, Leevisa, KIRARA, LO HAVI, Young Oh

Storm-Drunk Whale : ’98 Live, The Still Stars and Poems of the Naked Body

Realistically, I think Storm-Drunk Whale is a difficult first-time listen. The appreciation comes from diving deeper into the music and sonic assault to hear all the different elements. ’98 Live, The Still Stars and Poems of the Naked Body is an experience that’s worth the investment.

Genre: experimental, shoegaze, noise, rock

Eukk : Eukkspress#1

Eukk is standard indie rock and rock music that sounds like hard modern rock without the distortion. The band’s origins started in 2018 but Eukkspress#1 is their second longer release after a 2021 full length. They have a nice style and sound that’s perfect for the rock music fan.

Genre: rock, indie rock

Kim il Du : Again i love you

Kim Il Du and Chin Sooyoung present a three-song EP that’s a collaboration between acoustic guitar and piano. It captures a moment and presents itself as a dream pop-ish shoegaze experience. Kim Il Du is constantly evolving and recent releases feel like a light impression of that time.

Genre: acoustic guitar, folk, indie

R01 Parlour : Texture Over Time

R01 Parlour is a duo project by Youngwoo Lee and Hayane. It’s a fusion of electronic, acoustic, and melodic elements. Texture Over Time is a mellow listen, best digested with headphones.

Genre: electronic, acoustic, indie

BrokenTeeth : Broken Dental Clinic (Live)

If you haven’t listened to BrokenTeeth, you’re missing out on an artist who’s keeping melodic shoegaze alive. His other albums are all great, but most people never get a chance to listen to live performances and Broken Dental Clinic shows off all is abilities.

Genre: shoegaze, indie rock

OYEOL : SARM

OYEOL has a unique musical signature. It’s a fusion and collaboration between pop, jazz, funk, and pieces of rock. Included in that is a wide range of different vocal deliveries. She’s basically an artist who’s making individual songs that all live inside a wide pop interpretation.

Genre: pop, indie, fusion

cotoba : Humanoid operational

cotoba is essentially the poster band for math rock in South Korea. They’ve been around for a while now and continue to find new fans around the world. Humanoid operational is a great release.

Genre: math rock

Leevisa : Metro Blue

Producers all have their own signature and Leevisa showcased that on Koreography. Metro Blue is a step beyond that and the next chapter in her music journey.

Genre: electronic

KIRARA : cts8

I feel if you’ve heard KIRARA before, you are instantly familiar with the signature sound. cts8 is less about KIRARA though, with 10 remixes from artists like Fat Hamster, Ahn Maru, Jean Rhee, Vegetable Wife, meeroo choi, and more.

Genre: electronic

LO HAVI : WHO IS VICTIM?

WHO IS VICTIM? is LO HAVI‘s second EP and reminds me of a “best of” R&B and pop fusion style. It’s a nice introduction for most people and LO HAVI shows off well.

Genre: R&B, pop

Young Oh : EVERLAST

Young Oh moves between genres on EVERLAST. From moody rock, indie rock, shoegaze pieces, and funk, they show off a lot of angles. It’s a comprehensive audio experience.
