North Korean corn staple – any idea what it is?

I am reading a lot of stuff about North Korea and what a lot of sources mention is that people there frequently eat corn as a staple food, instead of the rice more common in SK. This got me thinking: what do they do with the corn? Do they grind it into a flour or do they eat it as a porridge, like the Italians do?

The reason I am asking here is that Andrei Lankov mentioned that using corn as a staple did not originate in the DPRK, and was a common practice among poor Koreans ever since corn was introduced into the peninsula. So maybe people here have older family members who may remember times like this? I tried to ask my own family but they are Koryo-saram/Soviet Korean, and the USSR did not grow much corn, so during poverty they ate rice with beans instead
