They have really became a plague in recent years, and I recall that even before the members officially debuted as soloists they were definitely there. Mainly for Baekhyun and Kyungsoo at the time, but now even Sehun has solo stans. I have met EXO solo stans that have never even listened to EXO’s music, and Sehun ones at that. I know lots of groups have solo stans for the members, but it seems that the EXO fandom has them particularly bad. Why is that?
Now that I think about it, did this start the moment the Chinese members began leaving? Or is this a recent phenomenon? EXO solo stans are particularly insufferable. I once watched a video where Baekhyun got a sasaeng phone call and she was screaming at him to leave Sehun alone (or the other way around). They seem a lot more delusional and hateful than solo stans for other groups. If you’re in EXO fandom spaces, they are noticeable from the get go and very outspoken.
There is also some sort of rift between OT8/OT9 EXO-Ls and EXO-CBX stans that I haven’t looked much into. Oh, and a high volume of ship specific stans as well.
Will someone please clue me in as to why this is? What made the EXO fandom like this?
