Why do 5th gen GGs have so much more trouble topping the charting in Korea than the previous gen?

Since 5th gen supposedly began in 2023, we’ve seen a ton of groups pop up left and right. But outside of Magnetic, no 5th gen GG has come even remotely close to reaching the same type of peak in the 3 years of the 5th gen era. I’m only comparing them to 4th gen because the latest Melon update to its charting system was in August 2021, and many major 4th gen groups debuted after that, including IVE, NMIXX, Lsfm, andnew Jeans.

Many of these groups saw almost instant success, topping the charts at debut, and they are still seeing strong results to this day. At the moment, the only 5th gen GGs that chart consistently on Melon are ILLIT and H2H, and even then, they have not come close to reaching the top ranks on the platform.

The point I’m trying to make is that many 4th gen GGs achieved massive success within their first or second year, aside from a few later bloomers like NMIXX and Idle. The more known 5th gen groups like tripleS, Kissoflife, Illit, BM, Izna, and Meovv are entering their 3rd and 4th year of their career in less than a month. This makes me wonder why the Korean gp has not been nearly as receptive to 5th gen GGs. Is it solely because the 4th gen groups are still so dominant right now that there is very little room for the 5th gen groups to break through?
