What is the advantage of “growing the fandom” of already very popular groups?

What’s the motivation for fans of already well-established groups with millions of fans to promote those groups in all the many ways we see top groups being promoted by fans presently?

For me, as long as my ult artists (and their companies) make enough money to continue to create music, I’m fine with their fandoms not growing.

At a certain point, the fandom is large enough to sustain a group for a full idol career whereby the artists can earn enough money to substantially invest in, e.g., real estate.

Also, at that point, the fandom is large enough that the artists’ own promotions are effective insofar as they reliably reach a wide audience to inform the public of upcoming releases, etc. The artists will have enough fans to access the biggest media outlets (talk shows, etc.),

The only thing I can see is that a larger fandom might encourage the groups to tour more countries, but at a certain point, the group is so popular that it becomes almost impossible to actually attend those concerts at reasonable prices. Also, as we’ve seen, even the most popular groups have a limited set of regions they’ll actually tour anyway.

It seems that at some point an artist reaches a level where more fans incrementally means more money, but the fans don’t seem to realize much material benefit to fandom at the margins at that point.

Could there ever be a level at which most fans would be happy with where their groups are, to the extent that they feel ok cease efforts to promote them?
