I’m typing this a little after listening to the Cerulean Verge Album Highlight Medley. The album seems to be pop rock leaning, which really suits Wendy imo. It also seems to be the kind of music she enjoys and will be perfect in concerts with a live band.
However, i hope the songs have more drama and theatrics involved, since she really excels at expressing both. ‘The Road’ is one of my favourite songs she’s ever released – it always makes me visualise her singing on the stage in an empty, dark, echo-ey theatre, desperately reaching out and trying to find a path. It’s emotional, raw and beautiful.
An alternative rock or gothic metal leaning song like Evanescence’s Bring Me to Life would be PERFECT for Wendy’s powerful voice and will finally allow her to go all out.
Similarly, a gothic ballad like My Immortal (again by Evanescence) would be absolutely haunting and beautiful with Wendy’s expertly crafted vocal delivery.
It will stand out from the rest of the industry sonically and vocally and will be a proper departure from Red velvet’s sound (although they’ve alluded to more “horror” / f(x)-like songs in the past, Psycho would probably be the closest to this sound conceptually).
Anyway, this was just my take on the kind of sound Wendy should try in the future. I am excited for her first comeback as a soloist under ASND! They seem to be doing well so far for a small and new agency.
