Immigrating for University with an Animal

안녕하세요!

I’m 17M, living in the US, and I plan to move to Korea and work there as well.

Originally, I had planned to get my associates in a community college, but honestly, I am becoming increasingly more anxious about the direction my country is headed in, and would rather plan to get out now. I turn 18 in 6 months, and I graduate in December. I plan to get my bachelors in art, and go into an arts related field. I can speak a decent amount of Korean, of course, I’m no where close to fluent, but I can understand most basic sentences and dialogue. I know I can take Korean classes as well, so I will definitely be doing that.

My biggest concern is actually getting to Korea. I have a female cat, meaning I most likely couldn’t find housing accommodation from any school. I know boarding houses are an option, but just how safe are those? What would be my best bet in this scenario? I can’t leave her behind and I will most definitely not consider surrendering her to anyone. I know tuition is cheaper, and I’ve done most of the homework, but I was hoping someone would have some additional guidance for me regarding housing a cat as a university student. Could she ride with me in the plane, or are there cargo requirements?

I would rather not get into anything personal, but I am from a group that our current administration wants to get rid of entirely, and they are already trying to prohibit us from leaving. ‘Waiting it out’ is not an option for me. This post isn’t meant to be political, and I don’t want to argue with anyone, I would just like some guidance or recommendations if anyone has any.

감사합니다!
